A report says the production of biofuels will double in Australia over the next year.
Industry consultant APAC Biofuel says more than 1,000 megalitres a year of biofuel will be made in Australia by the middle of 2009.
The report has been presented to the Advanced Global Biofuel Summit in Bangkok today.
One of its authors, Australian Graeme Bethune, says the growth is expected despite drought conditions.
"Certainly the drought has created the challenges and it obviously depends on when things break and if and when they return to normality," he said.
"But there are a range of feed stocks that can be used for ethanol around the country and the same's true for bio-diesel."
Mr Bethune says the demand is being driven by a growing number of service stations providing ethanol fuel.
