Gentrack CIS first in West Australian retail energy market

Perth, February 7. Alinta, one of Australia’s most progressive energy companies, has implemented the Gentrack CIS software solution from Talgentra to bill and manage interval metered consumers in the newly deregulated electricity market in Western Australia.
Gentrack CIS, developed by Melbourne-based Talgentra, was selected primarily on its ability to manage and accurately bill large amounts of interval meter data, as it does for ten other utilities in the National Electricity Market (NEM). Gentrack processes large amounts of interval meter data quickly and has the ability to interface with energy market participants like MSATS, directly or via a client’s preferred middleware.

As an added bonus Gentrack is also being used for billing interval metered gas customers as it does for Origin Energy. Phase two of the project at Alinta WA focused on the migration of existing gas interval metered customers to Gentrack. An Alinta spokesperson said: “Following a rigorous selection process, Gentrack was selected as the best solution when it came to positioning us with an effective billing solution for our entry into the electricity market in WA. It allows us to integrate and automate existing processes and offers a flexible and scalable solution, helping Alinta to reach its goal of achieving the lowest cost to serve in the sector.”

Alinta has implemented one of Gentrack’s latest releases - Gentrack Velocity, known for its ability to speed the correct data to the most appropriate area of the business at the lowest cost. The four-month implementation timeframe for Phase 1 was facilitated by the software’s configurable workflow process that enables rapid alignment with the retailer’s specific business logic. Gentrack Velocity’s extensive functionality ensured minimal customisations were required and both phases of the project were completed on time and under budget.

James Docking, Talgentra General Manager, was pleased to have won the Alinta tender. He said: “Gentrack’s powerful billing engine and ability to manage large amounts of interval metering data effectively, are just two reasons why it is the most widely used billing and customer care solution in Australasia. Our people are also key to Gentrack’s success with their extensive knowledge of billing and customer care solutions for energy and water industries around the world. Our business continues to grow exponentially as a result of increased competition in Australia and as utilities recognise the value and fast return on investment we can deliver.”

Alinta is the fourth energy retailer in Australia to implement the Gentrack CIS within the past 12 months and brings Talgentra’s utility customer total in Australia to 10 including Red Energy, Aurora Energy, Origin Energy, ActewAGL, and NT Power and Water Corporation.
