Govt rejects Gore criticism of climate change stance.
The Federal Government has dismissed criticism from the former United States vice president Al Gore about its approach to climate change.
Mr Gore is in Australia promoting his film about global warming - An Inconvenient Truth.
He says Australia is not taking the environmental threat seriously.
But Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane says Mr Gore is just trying to sell tickets to his movie.
"It's one man's interpretation of fact and, I guess, whilst that can be classed as non-fiction, it can also be classed as not correct," he said.
"The reality is that the Kyoto Protocol will see countries miss their targets and the emissions in the world increased by about 40 per cent."
About 20 MPs watched the film at a screening at Parliament House last week.
The Parliamentary Secretary to the Environment Minister, Greg Hunt, says he agrees with Mr Gore - who advocates the use of clean coal technology in the film.
Mr Hunt says the Government has taken a number of steps to reduce greenhouse emissions, and that one effective measure is the pumping of carbon pollution into deep underground rock formations.
"One of the things where I'm in complete agreement with Al Gore is he outlines what is called geosequestration, but let's call it clean coal technology, which he said was incredibly important," he said.
"He put more weight on that than any other single thing."
