Katter tables ethanol fuel mandate Bill.
Queensland independent MP Bob Katter has introduced an amendment Bill in federal Parliament calling for all fuel to contain 10 per cent ethanol within eight years.
The legislation is based on laws passed in the US, where ethanol-blended petrol is already being phased in.
Mr Katter believes his bill is necessary because Australian oil production has declined in recent years.
"Anyone who has a go at us and says it's unreasonable to ask this, well it's not unreasonable for Congress of the United States or the United States President," he said.
"So we go forward with the American legislation and putting it into the House.
"These people follow the Americans in everything else - follow them once when it will be enormously beneficial to the Australian people."
