Stern to deliver climate change warning in Aust.
The author of an influential report on global climate change, Sir Nicholas Stern, will meet Australia's Prime Minister and Opposition Leader today.
Sir Nicholas will be warning that the world economy will lose trillions of dollars unless governments act.
On a brief visit to Australia, Sir Nicholas will meet both John Howard and Kevin Rudd to discuss the economic implications of climate change.
He has warned that if the world does not cut greenhouse gases, the planet will be faced with a $9 trillion bill.
He will be urging the Federal Government and the Opposition to take the lead in setting targets to cut emissions and put a price on carbon.
His report, The Stern Review, also recommends countries like Australia convert to solar and wind energy now and push ahead with new technologies to tackle global warming.
