Daimlerchrysler Success with Record Bus Order: "Biggest bus investment in NSW history
DaimlerChrysler to supply 255 CNG buses
Deliveries commencing in late 2006
Melbourne � DaimlerChrysler has been awarded the contract to supply the State Transit Authority of New South Wales in Australia 255 O500LE Mercedes-Benz Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered city buses over the next five years with deliveries to commence late 2006.
State Transit operates a total of 1,914 buses in and around Sydney and Newcastle of which 1,192 are Mercedes-Benz prod-ucts. They include Articulated 0305, 0405, 0405N and 0405NH CNG and now soon the O500LE CNG. This latest order maintains the long term relationship that State Transit and DaimlerChrysler has enjoyed over the past 30 years.
N.S.W. Premier Morris Iemma and Transport Minister John Watkins unveiled a plan this month to replace more than a quarter of State Transit�s bus fleet. Deputy Premier and Minister for Trans-port John Watkins said environmental factors were a key issue considered in the purchase of the new buses and the option se-lected would give the greatest benefit both environmentally and operationally.
The Bus features will include; a Compressed Natural Gas pow-ered, turbo charged and intercooled (OM447hLAG) environmen-tally-friendly engine, generating the lowest emissions of any mass-produced conventional commercial buses in Australia; a six speed ZF transmission; a Custom-Coaches body; a low-floor fully acces-sible vehicle; fully air-conditioned; and, an ergonomic design that meets the highest safety standards for drivers and passengers.
