Greens welcome renewable energy target. 28/06/2006. ABC News Online

The Greens in South Australia say they are heartened by news that the State Government has set a bigger target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Premier Mike Rann says it will be made a legal requirement that 20 per cent of the state's power come from renewable sources within eight years.
SA Greens Member of Parliament Mark Parnell says that is an achievable target which could be reached faster if big retailers were required to use power from renewable sources.
But Mr Parnell believes a mining expansion will cancel out benefits from the Premier's 20 per cent target.
"Especially if we go ahead with the expansion of Roxby Downs," he said.
"It's already the biggest consumer of electricity and a four fold increase will actually blow our greenhouse gas targets out of the water.
"Having a long-term target is a good idea but what we need is short-term targets so that we don't take one step forwards and two steps backwards
