Second power station planned for Collie. 01/02/2006. ABC News Online: "Another coal-fired power station for Collie in Western Australia has been given conditional approval by the State Government.
Griffin Energy wants to build the 200 megawatt power station next to its Bluewaters One plant, which is currently under construction.
The Government says the second plant can go ahead if several environmental conditions are met, including greenhouse gas offset programs.
Griffin Energy has not yet secured any customers for either power station.
Executive general manager Wayne Trumble says the deregulation of the energy market and the resources boom will create considerable demand for coal-fired energy.
'We're quite confident that there will be a demand in the marketplace that will need to be fulfilled, new industries in mining and mineral processing and competing directly for the existing loads that are within the market,' he said."
