Oregon Governor Pursues Ocean 'Wave Energy'

Corvallis, Oregon [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] In voicing his support for a federal earmark of $3 million to establish a national Wave Energy Research, Development and Demonstration Center in Oregon, Governor Ted Kulongoski is bringing his state closer to a leadership role in renewable energy.

"Generating electricity from the motion of ocean waves is a critical aspect of that goal. This is the kind of progress that creates long-term prosperity and great new jobs for Oregonians, while reducing our dependence on fossil fuels from overseas."

-- Ted Kulongoski, Governor of Oregon After seeing a demonstration of electrical power generation from ocean wave action, the Governor told researchers at Oregon State University (OSU), where work on the technology has already begun: "This remarkable technology is part of my vision for energy independence and renewable energy in Oregon."

Setting up the Wave Energy Research, Development and Demonstration Center in Oregon is among the top priorities the Governor has outlined to Oregon's congressional delegation. "I am committed to doing everything I can to locate the Center in Oregon," the Governor said, "and I intend to work at both the federal and state levels."

He continued, "Generating electricity from the motion of ocean waves is a critical aspect of that goal. This is the kind of progress that creates long-term prosperity and great new jobs for Oregonians, while reducing our dependence on fossil fuels from overseas."

The Governor's renewable energy agenda promotes greater energy conservation and efficiency; has comprehensive policies in support of biofuels and biomass energy technologies, such as a renewable biofuels standard; and establishes a renewable portfolio standard (RPS) to ensure that statewide renewable electrical energy use reaches 25 percent by 2025.

"This kind of clean, renewable technology is the future of Oregon and our nation. Oregon has the opportunity to lead the transformation of energy consumption on a national and global scale, and we must make the most of that opportunity," said Kulongoski.

I think Governor Ted Kulongoski's support of a national Wave Energy Research center for Oregon would be an excellent opportunity to bring his state to the forefront in developing wave power. Our country is facing difficult energy problems and the Governor is making a concerted to do something that will be of great help in future energy independence for his state and for our country.

Waves have such a dense concentration of energy that it makes good common sense to promote methods of energy extraction from them. Technology is already advancing in this area with a wave farm being built off the coast of Portugal and there is no reason our country cannot follow suit.

The governor's attempt to have Oregon as a major ocean energy producer is absolutely great, and in tune with things to come. As a novice inventor, I would like to
tell about my invention to produce energy from ocean waves. A local engineering firm has verified my inventive output from a small ocean wave area to produce electricity for thouands of homes. I must have lots of help to see it to fruitivity.
