TRUenergy interested in Energex - Breaking News - Business - Breaking News
Energy power retailer TRUenergy has joined the list of potential buyers for the retail operations of Queensland's Energex.
In April the Queensland government announced it was selling power companies Energex and Ergon, with Energex attracting suitors such as Origin Energy and the Australian Gas Light Company for its strategic position in the state's fast growing south east.
TRUenergy's newly appointed managing director Richard McIndoe said the company planned to build its retail position in Victoria, NSW and South Australia but was also keen to expand into new markets.
"We will also be looking at acquiring the retail operations of Energex in Queensland once further information on their sale is released," he said.
Mr McIndoe has been responsible for the growth of the international operations of TRUenergy's parent company, Hong Kong-listed China Light Power Group, for the past four years.
He has been running TRUenergy since February and was appointed its permanent managing director on Tuesday.
TRUenergy supplies gas and electricity to more than 1.1 million customers and owns the Yallourn power station and the Iona gas plant in Victoria and the Torrens Island power station in South Australia.
It also has a permit to develop a 400 megawatt gas-fired power station near Wollongong in NSW and has a 33 per cent stake in the Melbourne to Adelaide SEAgas pipeline.
