EU pushes for joint energy stance

Senior EU officials are meeting oil and gas industry executives and ministers from energy-rich countries in an effort to establish an EU-wide energy policy.
The two-day meeting in Brussels comes ahead of a summit with Russia - the EU's top energy supplier - on Friday.
The EU wants to start talks at the summit on a new EU-Russia partnership and co-operation agreement.
But Poland is barring them until Russia lifts an embargo on Polish meat and joins an international energy treaty.
Europe has a problem - it uses a lot of energy, but does not have enough of its own, says BBC Europe correspondent Jonny Dymond.
It currently imports about 50% of its needs. If current trends continue, that will rise to 70% within a couple of decades.
With newly-industrialising nations like China and India chasing ever more expensive energy resources, Europe's leaders have called for some strategic and unified thinking.
On Thursday EU energy ministers will also discuss ways to cut energy use.
But what should be a simple start to negotiations with Russia on Friday is now under threat.
