Nuclear power gaining support: poll.
There may be some comfort for the Federal Government in another Newspoll published today showing support for nuclear power is gaining ground in Australia.
The poll published in the Australian newspaper shows 45 per cent of people surveyed are in favour of the development of a nuclear power industry as one of a range of future energy options.
That figure was 35 per cent four months ago.
It is the first time there is more support than opposition to nuclear power.
Prime Minister John Howard has been calling for a new debate on nuclear power in Australia, seeing it as a way to address the problems of greenhouse gasses from coal energy and climate change.
