Electricity Prices
The Treasurer, Michael Aird, expects the Energy Regulator will recommend increased power prices for non-contestable customers to take effect next year.
Mr Aird said recent draft decisions by regulators in NSW, Queensland and the ACT have foreshadowed sharp increases in electricity prices.
“Without pre-empting the Regulator’s draft determination, the Government has been predicting for some time that electricity prices are likely to rise.
“Electricity prices have risen right across the country due to increases in material and labour costs, new electricity infrastructure requirements from economic growth, the impact of the drought and the need to ensure reliability and quality of supply.
“Tasmania is not isolated from these factors."
The Regulator issues his draft report on 31 July.
