Wind energy has positive future - industry
Wind power has the potential to become the ‘main pillar’ of the global energy in the future, according to a panel of top CEOs at a recent conference. The 2006 European Wind Energy Conference (EWEC) in Athens highlighted the rapidly changing energy supply situation, and opportunities for the wind sector to take advantage of major issues facing traditional power sources. "In our sector, many things are happening. 2005 was the year of a structural crisis in the conventional energy system. Around the world, countries are worried about the availability of energy resources in the future,” commented Esteban Morrás Andrés, CEO, Acciona, Spain. "Wind energy is the most significant solution to overcome today's energy crisis." Wind power has continued building a steady capacity in Europe in recent years, however emerging markets such as the US and Asia offer the potential to take the renewable to the next level in terms of uptake and supply. "The wind industry is becoming more global and more professional, we are switching gear as we enter into a more mature era," said Per Hornung Pedersen - CEO, Suzlon Energy, India.
