Any takers ?!
Sale of Basslink -
Minister for Energy, David Llewellyn, said today the Government would be negligent not to look at purchasing Basslink.
“Given Basslink’s significance to the state’s energy security and financial arrangements between Basslink’s owners and Hydro – it is prudent to look at all options.
“Since National Grid announced it was selling Basslink in November, I haven’t ruled anything in or out and this remains the case.”
“One thing is for sure though, after ten consecutive years of low rainfall, without Basslink and access to natural gas, Tasmania would now be in a desperate situation.
“We would be in the same kind of circumstances as the late sixties, when we saw power rationing and massive damage to the economy.
“If the Tasmanian Government hadn’t attracted more than $2 billion of investment in this infrastructure – there is no doubt that Tasmanians would now be in the grip of an energy crisis.”
