Nissan receives approval to start road-testing for the X-Trail fuel cell vehicle: "Nissan has received formal approval from the Japanese government to start road-testing and leasing of its fuel cell-equipped hydrogen-powered X-Trail SUV.
This latest version of the FCV prototype has a fuel cell stack 60% smaller than that of its 2003 predecessor, but can generate over 40% more power (90kW). Its new hydrogen storage cylinder is more compact, holding 15% less fuel, but the FCV now has a greater cruising range between fill-ups of over 370km. Its top speed is a little faster, at 150kph.
While testing of this model is only beginning in Japan, Nissan has gone on to develop a further prototype with a cruising range of over 500km. Testing of this will begin in February in Canada and then in other areas where hydrogen refueling facilities are available. "
