NPR : Kremlin Keeps Tight Hold on Natural Gas Profits

Morning Edition, January 10, 2006 · Russia says it shut off natural gas supplies to Ukraine last week only because it wanted to be paid a fair, market price. But under the deal ending their dispute, Moscow will sell Kiev gas at less than half the price it was demanding. Economists say the agreement shows the Kremlin's real concern was control over Russia's gas profits.
