Hodgmans Hydro Leaks - David Llewellyn, MHA - Tasmanian Government Media Releases

The State Liberal leader Will Hodgman must come clean on where he obtained an illegally leaked Hydro document and explain to the Tasmanian people why he is using it to try to damage the taxpayer owned Hydro.

Minister for Energy David Llewellyn said the use of illegally leaked Hydro documents by the Liberal Opposition is reckless.

“By using these documents for short term political gain Mr Hodgman is not only encouraging illegal activity, but is potentially damaging Hydro by making confidential information available to Hydro’s competitors.

“Hydro is owned by all Tasmanians, and any move to use illegally obtained information to reduce the worth of the Hydro reduces the value of the stake of each Tasmanian in the company.

Mr Llewellyn said concern about this kind of behaviour isn’t confined to the State Labor Government.

“It was the Groom Liberal Government of which Mr Hodgman’s father Michael was a member that rightly legislated to make the improper use of information acquired through employment in a Government Business Enterprise an offence carrying penalties of up to five years imprisonment and a fine of up to $200 000,” Mr Llewellyn said.

“By using these illegally released documents Mr Hodgman is thumbing his nose at one of the few principled stands taken by a Tasmanian Liberal Government.

“The Liberals have always wanted to sell the Hydro and Mr Hodgman’s actions in attempting to damage Hydro raises serious questions.” Mr Llewellyn said.
